CSFWG: Group News http://www.csfwg.org/ CSFWG Group News: 2011-03-04 12:13:31 Due to unexpected work situations on my end, I've been unable to scan the submissions for this month. I usually get it done on the first Wednesday of each month, but it looks like things won't happen until Saturday the 5th of March (at the earliest.) I apologize for the delay of a few days, but this was kind of out of my hands. Look for the usual emails from me announcing the upload of the submissions either this Saturday or Sunday. -- J.T. Evans, President http://www.csfwg.org/ CSFWG Group News: 2011-05-18 21:03:08

Welcome to the new web site! J.T. has totally redesigned the site to make it easier for him to manage and (hopefully) easier for you to find things. If you have bookmarks that targeted some page other than the top one, then they will most likely no longer work. You'll need to adjust your bookmarks by deleting the old ones, finding the new location of the page that you had bookmarked and creating a new bookmark. Our site map is the best resource for finding those deeply hidden pages that you may be looking for.

NOTE TO MEMBERS: You will now have to use your personal email address and your usual password to log in. For security reasons, you will be required to change your password after your initial login.

CSFWG Group News: 2011-08-15 20:47:45

The first (annual?) CSFWG members-only retreat is now complete. We all returned safe and sound (I hope, still haven't heard back from everyone) from a great four-day (five for some of us) weekend in which a great deal of excellence was achieved. The classes were fantastic and received almost as much praise as Mel Kary's cooking. The walks through the Colorado mountain wilderness were wonderful and inspiring. The company couldn't be beat by anything, except the great writing exercises. Great hilarity ensued from the "He Said, She Said" flash fiction chain-of-reading that everyone participated in. Just being able to get out of cell phone range for days on end really helped everyone focus on their writing. Even though, during the free writing times, we were mostly quiet, the amount of creative energy in the room really helped everyone along. The click-clack of keys marched around the room and gave everyone that extra drive that was needed to get some great writing done.

Thanks to Mel Kary for organizing this great trip! Also, thanks to her dad, Dan, for his wonderful hospitality as almost a dozen strangers invaded his mountain getaway for a long weekend.

CSFWG Group News: 2011-09-26 11:15:29 The Colorado Spring Fiction Writer's Group is officially a nonprofit corporation according to the Secretary of State of Colorado! We ratified the articles of incorporation and bylaws at this month's business meeting, and I sent them off to the state the next Monday. We were approved within hours, and I immediately started working on the 501c3 tax form for the federal government. That form is now completed (with all attachments and extra goodies) and is going to be sent off to the IRS sometime today. As things progress, I'll keep everyone updated on the status. Now is time for the waiting game. It could take a couple of months. It could take a year. We have no way of knowing beyond waiting for additional information from the IRS. Wish us luck! http://www.csfwg.org/ CSFWG Group News: 2011-11-13 01:58:12 The Colorado Springs Fiction Writer's Group is officially a 501c3 nonprofit entity per the rules and regulations set forth by the United States federal government. I just received the letter in the mail today granting us this status. I'm so very excited about this achievement! It's going to open so many more doors for us and allow us to do so many more things with the group as a whole. It's been a great year thus far (start of workshops, first retreat, nonprofit status, etc.) and I can't wait to see what's around the bend. http://www.csfwg.org/ CSFWG Group News: 2012-01-14 16:31:37 We just held our annual elections for new board of directors within the CSFWG. The only changes that happened during the elections is that Mike Reid stepped down as Treasurer, and Mel Kary stepped into those shoes. To reduce her workload, she stepped down as Tuesday Officer and Andy Burns was nice enough to move into that role as a fresh member of the BoD. Here's a great and prosperous year under the great team that we have assembled! http://www.csfwg.org/ CSFWG Group News: 2012-01-25 22:59:32 We now have a bank account and a PayPal account! Talk about getting all official. If you're a member of the public and you like what you see on our web site, find it useful, use it as a reference or teaching guide, or need a tax write-off (we are a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization,) then you can use the donate button on the left-hand side to donate to us via PayPal. If you're a member, you can log in to the web site and renew your membership via PayPal as well. http://www.csfwg.org/ CSFWG Group News: 2012-04-07 18:39:29

I have fantastic news about one of our members. Patrick Hester, a member of the Saturday group, has a wonderful fanzine podcast by the name of SF Signal. Of course, the fact that he has a fanzine podcast is not the fantastic news. The fact that Patrick (and his team) have been nominated for a Hugo Award is the news that I'm talking about.

Congratulations to Patrick, and we hope you bring home the prize! I can't wait to see a Hugo in your hands!
